Howard Birnberg, one of the three founders of the ICE program and the first chairman of the organization. It has come a long way from the early monthly meetings at the dining room table of his Lincoln Park home. For four years, he was a coach of the St. Ignatius College Prep (Catholic League) ice hockey team where his son, Michael played. He also played hockey over the years including with the “old guys” at Johnny’s Ice House. In 2008, he and his family followed Michael to California where hockey is largely unknown, and the nearest rink is at least 80 miles from his Carmel Valley home. He still keeps in touch with Brad Erickson and would love to see ICE become a nationwide program.
